You and Darcy got back to your apartment, Darcy had been rambling constantly the whole way there. You mostly ignored her and nodded absently when she paused. You couldn’t stop thinking about that mysterious stranger. He had been standing right next to you, you were certain of it. But how had he just vanished like that?

He was obviously working on some mythology paper, ‘mortal’ he had called you.  You thought about Dr. Foster’s boyfriend, Thor, the Norse god, was he mortal? You scoffed at yourself, ‘yes, I’ve gone and met a Norse deity at some library in Chicago.’

You noticed it had grown quiet and looked around. Darcy was standing next to you with her arms crossed and glaring, clearly annoyed.
“Did you hear any of what I said? Fine, are you still thinking about that guy?”

You looked at her surprised, was it that obvious?

“Did you get his number? Please tell me you got his name at least.”

You paused embarrassed, “Erm…”

Darcy threw her hands up and walked into your room, talking loudly as she started rummaging through your closet. “You are hopeless!” She poked her head around the corner of your door, “You’re lucky though, you’ve got me.” She smiled and disappeared once more.

“What do you mean?” You were uneasy; whatever Darcy had was probably not going to be something you were overly fond of. You walked to your room and leaned against the doorway.

Darcy was kneeling in your closet throwing different outfits behind her onto your bed.
“Ew, you still have this?” she held up an old black sweatshirt from your high school speech team. “Ugh, and plaid? You have plaid clothes?”

“Yes I do! They’re comfortable!” you snatched the shirts from her hands before she could toss them aside.

Darcy rolled her eyes and continued talking like she hadn’t been interrupted. “So, I know some people, who know some other people who know some people, and have some friends with other people and some connections with-“

You cut her off, “You know the right people, I got it, where are you going with this?”

“Long story short, I got us access to an exclusive nightclub downtown where only the most important people are invited. Like, there’s the wealthy, the famous, the wealthy and famous, well basically, they’re all the type of people who Tony Stark spends his time with.”

“Tony Stark?” you said blankly. You knew who he was but had no idea what he had to do with your clubbing experience.

“Of course! Jane’s boyfriend is Thor, he’s part of the Avengers team and Tony Stark, Ironman, is also part of it. Voila, cue your entrance!”

“I’m a history student! I’m working on getting my doctorate, I have absolutely nothing in common with those people. Those are the best and brightest of society, I’m just,” you paused trying to think of the right words, “me.”

Darcy shrugged and went back to rummaging. “Well I got Jane hooked up with a god-“

“No you didn’t,” you muttered.

Darcy ignored you, “I got Jane hooked up with a god, and she’s not even my best friend.” She leaned back out of the closet, “that’d be you.” She pointed at you and then went back to digging, “Since as far as I know, there’s probably no more gods available for dating so I’ll have to get you as close as possible.”

You sat down on your bed and sighed, groaning at the ever increasing pile of clothes. You looked at the different outfits, “I don’t remember buying these…”

“Of course not, I bought them.”

“I don’t have that kind of money to be wasting!”

Darcy found the last piece she was looking for then turned around and dropped them on your bed. “Of course you don’t, that’s where the whole ‘friends’ thing came in.  I met Pepper Potts and got to spend some time with her, we’re totally close now.” Darcy grinned. “So we went shopping and I told her about you and how nice you were and pretty and you know, that sort of thing.” She waved her hand. “She and Jane are friends too. And so I thought, we could take you shopping sometime because shopping is awesome,” you rolled your eyes, “but I knew you wouldn’t want to go so I said we should buy them as a gift and surprise you.”

You put your head in your hands, then sighed and rubbed the back of your neck looking up. “Do you know anything about Thor? Like, does he have any god friends or something and is he mortal?”

“He has a few friends from Asgard that came here. Fandral, he’s one of the Warriors Three, is pretty hot, then there’s the other two and Lady Sif. Why?”

“That guy I talked to, he called me a mortal.”

“Clearly he’s a freak.”

You shrugged, “You’re right, I’m just being crazy.” You stood up, “Alright, hit me.”

Darcy smiled broadly, “Go,” she handed you an outfit, “start trying these on.” You left the room to change and Darcy kept talking. “You absolutely will have to meet Pepper, oh and Jane. Jane is a bit stuffy and understands the whole science thing so you’ll probably get along. Pepper is just hilarious and I met Tony Stark.”

You were trying on Darcy’s first choice. It was a beaded bra top with black sheer shirt-like cover; you looked at the mirror, already uneasy. You pulled on a black miniskirt that showed everything, nothing was left to the imagination. You picked up the pair of thigh high boots she’d added to complete the outfit. “Darcy, what the hell?” You walked back into your room, you didn’t even bother with the shoes.

Darcy looked at you sheepish, “OK, that might be in poor taste, bit slutty. Go try the next one!” You glared at her but left the room to try the second one. You held it up and inspected it, it was a simple black silk dress. You found it rather appealing to the eye. You put it on and fastened the clasps in the back. The folds in the supple cloth accentuated your curves quite nicely.
You reentered the room and dramatically struck a pose. “What do you think, darling?” You said in a horribly fake accent.

Darcy laughed, “No, definitely not.”

You looked down at yourself, “It’s not that bad…”

“Go try on the other one!” Darcy threw it at you and you once again left the room.

You zipped this one up and looked in the mirror, you gasped at your reflection. It was a beautiful, striking even, tight forest green dress. Over top the dress was a shimmering black overlay and it caught any amount of light, no matter how small. You turned to admire different angles.  It was gorgeously strapless and floor-length. You moved and saw that the right side had a slit going all the way to your hip. You bit your lip a tad nervously. When you stood still it wasn’t noticeable but when you moved, it didn’t seem too appropriate.
You walked back into your room and nervously posed before Darcy.

Her eyes widened and mouth dropped open, “Holy shit.”

You smoothed your hand nervously down the dress, you felt beautiful but you were still very self-conscious. “What do you think?” You twisted around so she could see the light refracting off and shimmering all over the dress.

“You are going to kill people!” Darcy jumped up and started circling you, “yes! This dress is perfect! Any man would be thrilled to have you, hell, I might even!”

You rolled your eyes but you felt very pleased with her reaction, it was such an amazing feeling this sense of knowing you look beautiful.

Darcy helped you with jewelry. You wore a thick black choker and various earrings and bracelets of gold. You finished the outfit off with killer strappy black stilettos. You pulled your (h/c) hair into a curled twist and pinned it in place with jewel encrusted pins. Having close connections to a billionaire definitely had its perks. You put makeup on and it made your (e/c) eyes pop on your face. You finished the look off with light lipstick; your smile was startlingly white and demure.

You stood in front of the mirror, inspecting the afternoon’s efforts and you found you were quite pleased. Darcy had run into her room to grab some dress, she said she wouldn’t bother trying to compete with you; besides, this was your night. You felt a thrill of excitement rush through you.

“I’m ready.”

Darcy came back out of her room wearing a strapless, short, black dress and red heeled shoes. She struck a quick pose and smiled at you. She grabbed your arm and dragged you from the apartment. She chattered the whole way to the club about the different people you would be meeting and you found yourself almost shaking with excitement.

Your taxi pulled up to the front doors of an extravagant nightclub: Luminous. You got out of the car and stared open mouthed at the neon lights that made up the sign. You looked closely and could see above ‘Luminous’, there read a small sign saying ‘Stark’s’.

“Stark’s Luminous?” You wondered aloud.

“Pepper was in charge of naming this club. Tony insists his name is on everything but she wanted something more original so she just made his name really small.” The line outside seemed endless with a massive bouncer standing at the entrance, blocking access to all but a few people.

“Hey there!” Darcy walked up to the bouncer and smiled coyly. He looked down at her unamused. You approached him and smiled, you felt genuinely happy and the warmth showed. The man couldn’t help but smile back at you, though he still shook his head. Darcy pulled out two tickets and the man inspected them closely.

The bouncer smiled and gestured for you two to enter. He opened the doors and motioned for you to walk through; you could feel hundreds of eyes boring into you with hateful glares. You ignored them and walked in anyways.

You were instantly struck with the force of the music and the pulsating lights. You could feel the very floors shaking with the beat. You looked around the room from the bar on one side, to various seating areas, to a second story with tinted glass floors so you could look down but not up. Chicago’s elite were here and everyone was milling around, chatting, dancing, a few lovers could be spotted, drinking and laughter everywhere.

Darcy threw her hands up and cheered then pulled you into the mass of writhing bodies. She yelled to you over the roar of the music but you couldn’t hear her. She kept hold of your hand and dragged you towards a door in the back. Everywhere you went, heads turned; some were the men whose breath you’d taken and many were the jealous girlfriends and wives.

Darcy dragged you to the door and opened it then pulled you in and shut it behind you, the music quieted instantly.

“Wow,” your ears were still ringing, “Where are we?”

A red-haired woman stepped forward from the other side of the small room, “Hello, you must be (y/n),” the woman held her hand out to you to shake it. “I am Pepper Potts.”

Your eyes widened.

Can they widen any more than they currently are?

“Hi, um, yea, I’m well yes,” you stumbled around trying to find words. One of Tony Stark’s closest most trusted aid and possible partner, you weren’t too sure, stood before you. You remembered the tabloids speculating about Tony Stark and the famed Captain America but you weren’t prone to much gossip.

Darcy giggled. “So what do you think of the outfit?”

Pepper smiled and nodded, “I’m glad you went with this dress, I was really hoping you would.”

“Thank you so much for this generous gift, I don’t know how to repay you.” You felt awkward knowing that she had gotten you something so nice and you would never be able to, well, repay her.

Pepper waved her hand, “Don’t worry about it, a friend of Darcy’s is a friend of mine. Someone has to live with her and deal with her constant, well, Darcy-ness.”

“Rude.” Darcy crossed her arms.

Pepper grinned, “You’ve taken good care of her, I’m happy to repay the favor.”
“Oh absolutely, it’s no trouble at all, really,” you stammered, being this near to someone so famous was intimidating.

“See? She says I’m alright.” Darcy's voice was grumpy.
Pepper hugged Darcy and kissed both her cheeks, “Well, I just wanted to make sure I met your friend. I have an appointment down town for Tony that I need to get to. You two have fun tonight, alright?” Pepper gave you a hug and turned to leave the room, “Oh and (y/n)?” You swung your head around to look at her, “You look absolutely beautiful.” She opened the door and left, the music instantly refilled the room.

You and Darcy watched her vanish through the crowd. After a moment Darcy shoved you out the door, yelling, “Let’s go have some fun!”

You smiled and followed after her, already swaying to the beat and then the most curious thing happened: you could’ve sworn a pair of familiar green eyes had just been fixed on you from across the room. You looked back and they were gone. You shrugged and followed after Darcy. You moved in time to the music while examining the other dancers and the building itself. The architecture was beautifully crafted and designed.

You and Darcy had separated and you were dancing with a group of people but still fairly by yourself. Sure you weren’t there with anyone, but you were still having fun.

After about five minutes of dancing, you felt something warm push against your back and hands delicately grabbed your sides. A familiar velvet voice whispered in your ear, “Hello darling, I never did get your name.” A shiver ran up your spine as he spoke and you looked back to see his brilliant green eyes fixated on you. He grinned.
I got help from a friend in the outfit design so that part took a little bit longer but yea! Naturally I don't own anything of Marvel and I'm trying to keep them as in character as possible but literary liberties. There's no suspicious backstory right now for Darcy and Pepper being friends, they're probably cousins or something and that's not important right now (I might do something with it later, who knows)
